{"id":7501,"date":"2023-07-16T09:21:00","date_gmt":"2023-07-16T09:21:00","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/infinoxio.wpenginepowered.com\/fsc\/?p=7501"},"modified":"2023-07-19T03:01:11","modified_gmt":"2023-07-19T03:01:11","slug":"introduction-to-metatrader-4","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/infinox.io\/global\/en\/introduction-to-metatrader-4\/","title":{"rendered":"Introduction to MetaTrader 4"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p>Developed in 2005 by MetaQuotes Software Corp., Metatrader is an electronic trading platform that allows the trader to view complete price charts and detect opportunities to buy and sell instruments with agility and effectiveness.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Traders use it to view real-time currency prices, open or adjust orders, and get technical and fundamental analyses.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The tool is very versatile, and can be accessed by the user on the computer or on mobile devices, such as smartphones.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\" id=\"Logging into your account\">Logging into your account<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>With\u00a0\u00a0MetaTrader 4\u00a0installed on your computer, the first step is logging in. When logging into the account, you must select the appropriate server. You will receive the server and login details in an email when your account is created.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image\"><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/media.infinox.com\/cdn-cgi\/image\/format=auto\/articles\/c516450eeddcb83e958ec4a7a08a0fee.png\" alt=\"\"\/><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p>In the File Tab, you will be able to login to a trading account as well as open a new chart.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image\"><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/media.infinox.com\/cdn-cgi\/image\/format=auto\/articles\/fc9c0cc21fb4b7bfc279b7594b293ae8.png\" alt=\"Introduction to MetaTrader 4\"\/><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image\"><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/media.infinox.com\/cdn-cgi\/image\/format=auto\/articles\/3cb4286d8e0efb5611e10ffd2ceaa31d.png\" alt=\"Introduction to MetaTrader 4\"\/><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\" id=\"Balance\">Balance<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>To check your account balance and open positions, open your Terminal window (Ctrl + T) and select the \u201cTrade\u201d tab.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image\"><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/media.infinox.com\/cdn-cgi\/image\/format=auto\/articles\/03ef99b086751aeb5fe28131edde9c55.png\" alt=\"\"\/><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\" id=\"Market Watch\">Market Watch<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>The \u201cMarket Watch\u201d window can be activated by the Ctrl+M key combination, or by using the View-&gt; Market Watch menu sequence. You can access all charts from this tab.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image\"><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/media.infinox.com\/cdn-cgi\/image\/format=auto\/articles\/05c7acfcdfe40b514870bc470c0ba2f5.png\" alt=\"Introduction to MetaTrader 4\"\/><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p>If you are unable to see all the desired instruments on the list, simply press Ctrl + U, and a window with all pairs available will appear. Some pairs are highlighted and some are not. You can select which instruments will be visible by clicking Hide or Show.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image\"><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/media.infinox.com\/cdn-cgi\/image\/format=auto\/articles\/df9c97b3a07d6fe98073b1fd7314cdb6.png\" alt=\"\"\/><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p>If you right-click on the desired instrument, the window below will appear.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image\"><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/media.infinox.com\/cdn-cgi\/image\/format=auto\/articles\/4b5a855561a31481e589774b3d192760.png\" alt=\"\"\/><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p>These are the options you are most likely to use:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>Chart Window \u2013 enables the chart of an instrument to be displayed;&nbsp;<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Tick Chart \u2013 shows the tick chart for the selected instrument;&nbsp;<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Hide \u2013 hides the specified symbol from the list in the \u201cMarket Watch\u201d window;&nbsp;<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Hide All \u2013 hides all symbols from the list in the \u201cMarket Watch\u201d window (if you have open positions or charts, the symbols will not be hidden);&nbsp;<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Show All \u2013 displays all available symbols in the \u201cMarket Watch\u201d window;&nbsp;<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Symbols \u2013 opens the window where you can hide\/show the selected instruments.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\" id=\"Charts\">Charts<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>If you click on Chart Window, a chart in the default template will appear.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image\"><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/media.infinox.com\/cdn-cgi\/image\/format=auto\/articles\/cd6bd4f563a609412e722886a2191fe2.png\" alt=\"\"\/><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p>To configure the chart, just click on F8 and the window below will appear:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\" id=\"Chart Periods\">Chart Periods&nbsp;<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>Chart periods can be amended in your toolbar. Alternatively, you can find this function by right clicking on the chart &gt; Periodicity<\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image\"><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/media.infinox.com\/cdn-cgi\/image\/format=auto\/articles\/52d08fc40e25e081b1c5da54c0e4b656.png\" alt=\"\"\/><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\" id=\"Template\">Template<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>If you want to keep visual settings of a chart, including the indicators you want to use, you can save and apply these specific settings on another chart by using the Template function.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Go to Template &gt; Save Template. Apply the saved template for new charts.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image\"><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/media.infinox.com\/cdn-cgi\/image\/format=auto\/articles\/a07ee4aa7e8f26200df967fb781ba036.png\" alt=\"\"\/><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\" id=\"Indicators\">Indicators<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>In the indicators section, you can select your favorite indicator to use for your technical analysis, and apply it to a chart. You can access it from the main toolbar. When you select a specific indicator, you can adjust its parameters according to your preferences.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image\"><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/media.infinox.com\/cdn-cgi\/image\/format=auto\/articles\/adefe5d6b361a09d4b5301f5d14c6cde.png\" alt=\"\"\/><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\" id=\"Objects\">Objects<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>Do the following to include objects in the chart:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image\"><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/media.infinox.com\/cdn-cgi\/image\/format=auto\/articles\/4937f5f466cdd20c6931794df40927e5.png\" alt=\"\"\/><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\" id=\"Trading with MT4\">Trading with MT4<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>To open a new position, right click on a chart and select Trading, or simply press the F9 button.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image\"><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/media.infinox.com\/cdn-cgi\/image\/format=auto\/articles\/a810bdc1ab10a8375368a952709f1f97.png\" alt=\"\"\/><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p>In MetaTrader 4, there are two ways of making deals: \u201cMarket Execution\u201d and \u201cPending Order\u201d. Market execution sends a request to fill your order immediately at the next available price. Once you have decided to buy or sell at the current price, press the Buy or Sell buttons to open a long or short position.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Before you enter the market you can change the following details in the \u201cOrder\u201d window:&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>Symbol &#8211; a currency pair<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Volume &#8211; number of lots<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Stop Loss &#8211; close your position at this loss level&nbsp;<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Take Profit &#8211; close your position at this profit level<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Comment \u2013 Appear in your report<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image\"><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/media.infinox.com\/cdn-cgi\/image\/format=auto\/articles\/bb12f11aa948f683269f9277206a8f3c.png\" alt=\"\"\/><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p>A Pending Order will open your trade when the price triggers predefined levels. You can enter this order by choosing the \u201cPending Order\u201d option in the Type box.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Another way to open orders quickly is with the Trade Panel. Just click on the icon in the upper left corner of the graph, or simply press the Alt + T command. The Trade Panel will appear.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\" id=\"Modify Order\">Modify Order&nbsp;<\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p>You can place Stop Loss and Take Profit at the time of making a deal by filling in the \u201cStop Loss\u201d and \u201cTake Profit\u201d fields in the \u201cOrder\u201d window. To delete Stop Loss or Take profit orders, specify its level as equal to zero.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image\"><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/media.infinox.com\/cdn-cgi\/image\/format=auto\/articles\/b361f3198910a4c456fe6ee876c5da00.png\" alt=\"\"\/><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\" id=\"Close position\">Close position<\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p>To close the trade, double click (Ctrl + T) on the position you are willing to partially close in your Terminal Window.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The following window will pop up. Choose the \u201cMarket Execution\u201d type and in the Volume section, you can select what position size you want to close. You can see what position size you are about to close in the yellow box.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\" id=\"Account Statement\">Account Statement&nbsp;<\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p>To generate a report with the history of executed orders, select the \u201cAccount History\u201d tab, click the right button and select the option to \u201cSave as Detailed Report\u201d.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image\"><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/media.infinox.com\/cdn-cgi\/image\/format=auto\/articles\/8ce46ebad62bd32f07e894253257ee44.png\" alt=\"\"\/><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\" id=\"Shortcuts\">Shortcuts<\/h3>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>To auto-scroll your chart, select the Auto Scroll option from the Charts menu on the tool bar.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Page Up \u2014 scroll a whole screen to the left;&nbsp;<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Page Down \u2014 scroll a whole screen to the left;&nbsp;<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Home \u2014 move the chart to the start point (first bar);&nbsp;<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>End \u2014 move the chart to the endpoint (last, i.e. most current) bar;&nbsp;<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>\u201c\u2013\u201d \u2014 zoom out (there are 6 levels of zoom available);&nbsp;<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>\u201c+\u201d \u2014 zoom in;&nbsp;<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Esc \u2014 close any dialog window;&nbsp;<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>F1 \u2014 open the online help \u201cUserguide\u201d;&nbsp;<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>F2 \u2014 open the \u201cHistory Center\u201d window;&nbsp;<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>F3 \u2014 open the \u201cGlobal Variables\u201d window;&nbsp;<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>F4 \u2014 open MetaEditor;&nbsp;<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>F5 \u2014 switch to the next profile;&nbsp;<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>F6 \u2014 call the \u201cTester\u201d dialog window for testing the expert attached to the chart window;&nbsp;<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>F7 \u2014 call the properties dialog window of the expert attached to their chart window, to change its settings;&nbsp;<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>F8 \u2014 call the chart setup dialog window, allowing basic chart parameters, colors, etc to be changed;&nbsp;<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>F9 \u2014 call the \u201cNew Order\u201d window, allowing the entry of market, limit, stop orders;<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>F10 \u2014 open the \u201cPopup prices\u201d window;&nbsp;<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>F11 \u2014 enable\/disable full-screen mode;&nbsp;<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>F12 \u2014 scroll the chart one bar to the left;&nbsp;<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Alt+1 \u2014 display the chart as OHLC bars;&nbsp;<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Alt+2 \u2014 display the chart as OHLC candlesticks;&nbsp;<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Alt+3 \u2014 display the chart as a line (closing prices only);&nbsp;<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Alt+W \u2014 call the chart management window;&nbsp;<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Alt+F4 \u2014 exit the program;&nbsp;<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Ctrl+A \u2014 arrange all indicator window heights by default;&nbsp;<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Ctrl+B \u2014 call the \u201cObjects List\u201d dialog window;&nbsp;<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Ctrl+H \u2014 show\/hide the OHLC line;&nbsp;<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Ctrl+I \u2014 call the \u201cIndicators List\u201d dialog window;&nbsp;<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Ctrl+L \u2014 show\/hide volume data on the main chart;&nbsp;<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Ctrl+M \u2014 open\/close the \u201cMarket Watch\u201d window;&nbsp;<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Ctrl+N \u2014 open\/close the \u201cNavigator\u201d window;&nbsp;<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Ctrl+O \u2014 open the \u201cSetup\u201d window;&nbsp;<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Ctrl+P \u2014 Print the chart;&nbsp;<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Ctrl+T \u2014 open\/close the \u201cTerminal\u201d window;&nbsp;<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p>For more information, you can also access the link below:&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/www.metatrader4.com\/en\/trading-platform\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\" target=\"_blank\">&nbsp;https:\/\/www.metatrader4.com\/en\/trading-platform<\/a><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><em>This material is for general information purposes only and is not intended as (and should not be considered to be) financial, investment or other advice on which reliance should be placed.
